Entering inside Kettle’s Yard house is always a magical experience. The former home of Jim and Helen Ede, Kettle’s Yard, is both a mecca and peaceful haven for artists and visitors who’ve come to explore the beautiful house and enjoy the extensive collection of contemporary and modern art.

I was lucky to be treated to a private visit to Kettle’s Yard back in September. I went along with a small group of photographers for a special meet up, kindly organised by Shutter Hub, an organisation founded by Karen Harvey providing opportunities and support for creative photographers worldwide.

We spent the morning being guided through the house. Natural objects are displayed alongside works of art, most of which had once belonged to Jim Ede who was the curator at the Tate Gallery in London during the 1920s and 1930s, with artworks by more recent, well renowned artists placed amongst the permanent collection, making the living exhibition as Jim had envisioned when he first moved to the house in Cambridge.

The changing light on a late summer’s day brought a lovely relaxed atmosphere to the house and it was nice to be in the company of like-minded photographers too. It felt good to be back at Kettle’s Yard again.
