Goodbye 2020 | Season of Motherhood | Real-life Family Photographer in Cambridge

We have finally entered into the last month of year 2020 and also the final season of this year’s Season of Motherhood entry for the Artefact Motherhood project.

As I sit down and write this, we have just come out of a second national lockdown. It feels like a familiar territory that has pretty much defined this year and our Covid experience, except it’s been a little different this time round as everything has stayed the same in terms of schools staying open and you were able to attend lessons with your friends and teachers - just like before the lockdown.

I asked the both of you to share your thoughts about how you found lockdown, which I will type below. On the whole your response were good, which I had an inkling it would be but it was reassuring to still hear straight from both of you how you have felt. I think that all the news and social media can make it sound disastrous than it really is. I’m sure that there have been many families and individuals that have struggled to cope through the isolation in the lockdown and the repercussions as well. But I like to focus on the positives and count on our blessings.

From reading your words about what you have enjoyed or not enjoyed and learnt during the lockdowns, as well as what you both hope will happen in 2021, I am grateful that the lockdown and this year in general have not negatively impacted on either of your emotional, physical or academic development.

Here are some of the responses that each of you wrote to the questions I put to you and below that are some photos from one of the art sessions you took online via zoom.

Did you enjoy the lockdown? And what did you do?

T: Yes, I went to Whitby, Yorkshire (for holiday at the end of the summer!)

R: Yes, because I played Xbox.

What did you like about it?

T: Zoom calls with my friends.

R: I got Xbox in 2020

What did you not like about it?

T: Not being able to interact with friends.

R: Nothing

Write 3 things you learnt during lockdown.

T:

  1. What happens when you put citric acid with water (we did this as part of our homeschooling Science class)

  2. How to take the colour out of coca-cola (as above)

  3. How to make chocolate chip cupcakes

R:

  1. Yemen is the only country beginning with Y

  2. 4 times table

  3. 8 times table

Can you think of TWO things that happened in 2020?

T:

  1. Lockdown started

  2. Being away from school for 6-7 months

R:

  1. Lockdown

  2. I came 7 years old.

And what do you hope will happen in 2021?

T: Covid-19 will go away

R: I get more games on my Xbox.
