IN SPOTLIGHT: Cambridge Street Photography | Phlock Live photography conference and exhibition, 20-22 March 2020, Manchester

The other week I found out that one of my street photographs will be appearing in the Phlock Live exhibition in Manchester. The photograph was selected as one of the Spotlight finalists in the ‘Travel and Street Photography’ category that was judged by Janel Peyton (Former editor at Dear Photographer), Danielle Da Silva (National Geographic Photographer and Founder of Photographers Without Borders) and Natalie Lennard (Photographer and Creator of Birth Undisturbed).

The competition aims to shine a spotlight on women in photography and the exhibition is one of the many activities taking place at Phlock Live, the largest female photography conference in Europe.

The photograph was taken a few years ago and shows a black and white image of Cambridge City Market taken in the rain. The photograph is particularly special to me because it was taken during one of my first outings with my camera club and while I was still in the early stages of my photography career. At the time, I had done little to no street photography, apart from when I travelled on holidays. Photographing on my own soil was a new experience and challenge.

It was a pleasant surprise when it was announced that my photograph of the city market in Cambridge was picked along with incredible street photos from Birgitta Zoutman, Pallavi Sureka Kejriwal and Merja Varkemaa-Schneider. They will be displayed amongst photographs by other finalists and talented photographers at the historic Midland Hotel in Manchester next month.
