Newborn photography: A documentary perspective from the mother's viewpoint

I recently did a newborn session shoot. It was a gentle and relaxed shoot unlike some of the family shoots I have done that involve energetic toddlers or pre-teens. We went at the baby's pace and stopped for moments for feeding, cuddling and sleeping. The baby stayed alert during most of the shoot and his big brother was on-hand throughout to entertain or come for cuddles when needed.

Whilst much of the aim and focus in these types of sessions is on the newborn, I feel it is important to capture a glimpse from the mother's angle; documenting the moments from those all-consuming early days of caring for her baby or children. I believe these are the memories that every mother will treasure long after the fog of sleep deprivation has faded.
